How a bat guano cleanup job runs

What to expect

Bat guano accumulates rapidly in attics and wall voids. A large colony can deposit hundreds of pounds of droppings over a season. Guano can harbor Histoplasma capsulatum, a fungal pathogen that causes histoplasmosis when disturbed and inhaled. We assess the contamination, remove guano with HEPA-filtered equipment, apply EPA-registered decontaminants, neutralize odor, and replace contaminated insulation when required. All work is performed with full PPE appropriate to the contamination level.

FAQ

Common questions about bat guano cleanup

Why is bat guano dangerous?

Bat guano can harbor Histoplasma capsulatum, a fungal pathogen that causes histoplasmosis when spores are disturbed and inhaled. Never disturb guano accumulation without proper PPE. Call a professional for assessment and cleanup.

How do I know how much guano I have?

We assess the contamination as part of our service. Accumulation depends on colony size and how long bats have been present. A colony of 100 bats can deposit significant accumulation in a single Wyoming season.

Does the smell go away on its own after the bats leave?

Partially. Guano odor persists long after bats leave. Urine soaks into wood and insulation and does not fully dissipate without treatment. Professional decontamination eliminates the odor at the source.

Do you replace the insulation?

When insulation is heavily contaminated, we remove and replace it as part of the cleanup scope. We assess insulation condition during our initial evaluation.
